The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Southern Africa (IOM3) will once again be hosting the Young Persons’ Lecture Competition. This prestigious competition is aimed at young scientists and engineers in the disciplines of Materials, Minerals, Mining, Packaging, Clay Technology and Wood Science and they will be judged on their presentation skills, which include diction and enthusiasm, visual aids, handling of questions by the judges and technical content.
Depending on the number of entries from each region, we will be holding Regional competitions throughout South Africa during the second week of May 2018, with the top three from each region participating in the National Competition later that month. Should the number of entries per region be low, we will hold only one National competition for all entrants in June.
We are thrilled to announce that the IOM3 Southern Africa will be hosting the World competition in 2018 and that the winner of the National Competition will represent South Africa at the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition in Port Elizabeth October 2018. Historically, South Africa has performed very well at the World competition, being placed in first, second and third places over the past 12 years.
Please note that the deadline for the Abstract Submissions is Friday 27 April 2018
